Port St. Joe Getaway

Seaside Charm and Lifelong Friends

This past weekend, my wife and I had the pleasure of visiting the picturesque town of Port St. Joe on Florida's northwest coast. Nestled 45 minutes southeast of Panama City, this little bayfront gem is part of Florida’s “Forgotten Coast” – a name that perfectly suits its unspoiled beauty and off-the-beaten-path vibe. Known for its friendly locals, seaside charm, and incredible nature, it’s the perfect destination for those looking to unwind and reconnect with both nature and loved ones.

The trip wasn’t just about discovering a new place, though. I was there to visit lifelong friends - Richard and Christy, making it a memorable weekend filled with laughter, good food, and exploration. We started our adventure by bar hopping at some of the local establishments and restaurants. The goal was to sample Oysters and cold beers from as many locations as possible. We successfully completed that goal!

Port St. Joe may be a small town, but it’s big on flavor. We enjoyed several fantastic meals, with the local oysters being the star of the show. Fresh, briny, and straight from the Gulf, they were an absolute delight. Each meal felt like a celebration of the coast, with seafood that couldn’t have been more fresh and flavorful.

Between meals, we soaked up the laid-back atmosphere and warm hospitality. I went wandering along the coastline, where I couldn’t resist capturing the stunning landscapes with my camera. The pristine beaches, calm waters, and endless horizon provided the perfect backdrop for a weekend of relaxation and inspiration.

We also had a great time attending the Scallops Music & Art Festival and was introduced to a duo band called “Blue Mother Tupelo”. You should check out their country blues music.

For anyone who loves nature and a slower pace, Port St. Joe is a hidden gem that’s hard to beat. From its stunning coastal views to its friendly community, this weekend getaway reminded me just how special time spent with friends and in beautiful places can be. If you’re ever near the Florida Panhandle, don’t miss the chance to explore this lovely bayfront town—it’s the perfect mix of adventure, relaxation, and heartwarming connections.
